The Be Circle met on Saturday 10/03/2007 and we explored the principle  “ Make mistakes and Learn “. I felt strongly that it is vital to make mistakes. Only in this way can I experience first hand the error of my actions and so discover the more correct route to a better performance.
I seem to remember as a young boy doing all sorts of things, which often ended in tears. Wonderful. What a journey of learning.

I have a friend who was recently very sad. He explained to me that his wonderful father had recently died and now he, my friend, was left feeling unable to do anything. I explored his story further and it turned out that throughout his formative life with his father they did things together but his father always undertook the principal part of every task himself, my friend was only allowed to stand by an watch. Never was my friend allowed to tackle a job on his own, let alone allowed to make a mistake. So, sadly, he never learnt any skill, let alone experienced making mistakes. He did of course get to witness his father’s continual excellent performance. Now, as an adult he must learn everything from the beginning and of course without fatherly guidance.

One of the mistakes I continue to make is that I think I am an individual. Separate from all others and entirely responsible for my personal wellbeing and success.  This mistake continues to echo for me although I have experience of unity with the higher self. Alas ADVITA (Not two) is ever illusive and its truth is known only fleetingly. I so want to know it better.

I cannot escape the belief that making mistakes can place my personal reputation in danger, for I am happy to demonstrate that normally I perform everything I do with excellence. So to make a mistake seems to be so damaging to my track record. I become angry with myself and express a lot of internal self-criticism. Yet the reality is that nobody cares in the slightest, except me, and that in truth my mistakes are my excellent teacher.
